# How to Add Screenshots and Annotate Your Trades

Attaching a chart screenshot to a trade record creates a visual log that is more useful than text notes alone. Trader Journal includes a built-in annotation canvas so you can mark up your screenshots before attaching them.

---

## Accessing the Screenshot Feature

Open any trade from the Trades tab or Dashboard. Scroll to the Screenshot section on the Trade Detail page.

If no screenshot is attached yet, you see a camera icon with a tap prompt. If one is already attached, you see the image with an option to replace it.

---

## Capturing the Screenshot

Tap the screenshot area. A prompt appears with two options:

- **Gallery** - pick an existing image from your phone's photo library
- **Camera** - take a photo directly (useful if you are photographing a desktop chart monitor)

Choose the source and select or capture your chart screenshot.

---

## Annotating the Screenshot

After loading the image, the app opens a full-screen doodle canvas. The chart screenshot appears as the background and you can draw on top of it.

**Drawing tools:**

- **Freehand drawing** - draw anywhere on the image by dragging your finger
- **Color palette** - 6 colors available: red, green, blue, white, black, amber
- **Undo** - remove the last stroke

**What to annotate:**

There is no required format. Common annotations include:

- A circle around the entry candle
- A horizontal line marking the key support or resistance level
- An arrow showing the direction you expected price to move
- A label marking where the trade closed
- Shading a zone that represents the area you were watching

Keep annotations minimal - 3-4 marks is usually enough. Over-annotated charts become harder to read during review.

---

## Uploading the Annotated Image

When you are satisfied with your annotations, tap the Upload button. The app captures the annotated image, converts it to a PNG, and uploads it to cloud storage. A progress indicator shows while the upload completes.

Once uploaded, the image URL is stored with your trade record and the annotated screenshot appears in the Trade Detail page. It is accessible from both the mobile app and the web dashboard at my.traderjournal.app.

---

## Reviewing Screenshots Later

In a review session, you can open any trade and tap the screenshot to view it full-screen. Looking through a month of annotated screenshots is one of the fastest ways to spot recurring patterns in your setups - what your winning trades look like vs what your losing trades look like.

Screenshots are stored per-trade and accessible indefinitely (subject to your subscription plan's storage limits).
