# Anonymous Authentication and Account Recovery

Privacy and data security are major concerns for retail traders. Many traders do not want to link their personal email address, Apple account, or Google profile to their trading utilities.

Trader Journal respects your privacy. The app uses anonymous authentication powered by RevenueCat, combined with secure token-based storage, to keep your trade logs private and secure.

## How Anonymous Authentication Works

When you install Trader Journal on your iOS or Android device, the app creates a unique, anonymous originalAppUserId via RevenueCat.

- **No Sign-In Required:** You do not need to enter an email, password, or link a social account to start tracking trades.
- **JWT Session Security:** The app issues a 30-day secure JWT token (using HS256 encryption) which is stored in your device's secure storage (flutter_secure_storage).
- **Data Privacy:** Your trade logs, API keys, and configurations are linked entirely to this anonymous identifier.

## Recovering Your Account

If you upgrade your phone, lose your device, or want to access your data from a second device, you need a way to recover your account without a password.

Trader Journal makes this simple:
- Find your original RevenueCat User ID in the Settings tab of your old device.
- Copy and save this ID in a secure location.
- On your new device, go to the Login Page, paste your ID, and tap recover. The system will instantly link your device to your existing trade logs and subscription tier.
