# How to Connect InstaForex MT4 to Trader Journal

InstaForex is one of the longest-running forex brokers, with a large client base across Asia and Eastern Europe. Connecting your InstaForex MT4 account to Trader Journal takes about five minutes.

## What You Need

- InstaForex MT4 terminal installed and logged in
- Trader Journal app on iOS or Android
- Your API key: **Settings → Expert Advisor** in the app

## Step 1: Download the EA

In Trader Journal app: **Settings → Expert Advisor → Download EA for MT4**. This downloads `TraderJournal.ex4`.

## Step 2: Install the EA

1. In MT4: File → Open Data Folder
2. Navigate to `MQL4 → Experts`
3. Paste `TraderJournal.ex4` into that folder
4. Restart MT4 or right-click Navigator → Refresh

## Step 3: Allow WebRequests

Go to **Tools → Options → Expert Advisors**. Check **Allow WebRequests for listed URLs** and add:

## Step 4: Attach to Any Chart

Drag the TraderJournal EA onto any open chart. Enter your API key when prompted and click OK. Enable AutoTrading (Ctrl+E).

The EA icon turns green when connected. Your InstaForex account appears in Trader Journal within 60 seconds.

## InstaForex Server Names

InstaForex operates many servers. Common ones include:
- `InstaForex-Demo` — demo accounts
- `InstaForex-Real` — live accounts (main)
- `InstaForex-Real2`, `InstaForex-Real3` — additional live servers
- `InstaForexUS-Demo`, `InstaForexUS-Real` — US-based servers (for some regions)
- `InstaForex-ECN` — ECN account server

Your server name appears at the bottom-right of the MT4 terminal. If your server does not appear in the login dropdown, download the latest InstaForex MT4 installer from the InstaForex website.

## InstaForex-Specific Notes

**Cent accounts:** InstaForex offers InstaForex Cent accounts where 1 lot = 10,000 units instead of 100,000. Lot sizes display correctly in Trader Journal.

**Scalping accounts:** InstaForex offers specific scalping-friendly accounts. These connect identically — the EA type doesn't change.

**Contests:** InstaForex runs trading contests. Contest accounts are separate MT4 accounts and connect to Trader Journal the same way as live accounts.

**Long account numbers:** InstaForex account numbers can be 7-8 digits. Use the full number when logging in.

## Troubleshooting

**EA shows an error face:** Confirm WebRequests is enabled and the URL `https://api.traderjournal.app` is in the list. Also verify AutoTrading is on.

**Trades not syncing:** Make sure the EA is attached on a chart that has the market open, or simply leave it on any chart 24/5 during trading hours.

**Old trades missing:** The EA captures trades from when it was first attached. For historical data, export your MT4 history as an HTML statement and import it via Settings → Import.
