# Crypto Trading Sessions: When Are the Markets Most Active

Crypto trades 24 hours a day, 7 days a week — but volume and volatility are not uniform. Understanding when markets are most active helps you focus your trading hours and avoid low-liquidity traps.

## The Three Crypto Activity Windows

### Asian Session (00:00–08:00 UTC)
- Moderate volume led by Japanese and South Korean exchanges
- BTC and ETH often range during this window
- Altcoin-specific news from Asian projects can cause sharp moves
- Lower overall liquidity compared to other sessions

### European Session (07:00–16:00 UTC)
- Volume picks up as European traders come online
- Overlaps with London forex session — macro moves can affect BTC
- Many institutional traders operate during these hours
- Often the session where trends begin

### US Session (13:00–22:00 UTC)
- Highest overall volume
- US equities open at 13:30 UTC — BTC correlation with S&P 500 is often strongest here
- Major price moves frequently start or continue here
- Most impactful for FOMC, CPI data releases

## Using Your Journal to Find Your Best Session

In Trader Journal, every trade has a timestamp. After 50 trades, use the Heatmap (Reports section) to see:
- Your win rate by hour of day
- Your average P&L by session
- Where your losing streaks tend to cluster

Most traders discover one or two sessions where their edge is strongest. For some it is the London open (07:00–10:00 UTC). For others it is the US afternoon session.

## Low-Liquidity Periods to Avoid

**Saturday and Sunday Asian hours (22:00–06:00 UTC):** Historically the lowest crypto volume window. Wide spreads, erratic wicks, and stop hunts are more common.

**Christmas/New Year:** Volume drops sharply. Price action is unreliable.

## Tagging Trades by Session

In Trader Journal, tag your trades:
- `asian-session`
- `eu-session`
- `us-session`
- `weekend`

After 100 trades, the session data will tell you exactly when your strategy works best — which is almost certainly not 24/7.

## Summary

Just because crypto never closes does not mean you should trade it at every hour. Your journal will show you your best and worst trading windows in plain numbers. Trade those windows and ignore the rest.
