# Managing Multiple Trading Accounts in One App

Many traders run more than one account simultaneously - a live account, a demo account, a prop firm challenge account, or accounts at different brokers. Trader Journal lets you manage all of them from the same app.

---

## How Many Accounts Can You Add

The number of accounts you can connect depends on your subscription tier:

- **Free** - 1 account
- **Starter ($2/mo)** - 3 accounts
- **Pro ($5/mo)** - 5 accounts
- **Business ($10/mo)** - 10 accounts

On the free tier, attempting to add a second account shows the paywall screen with upgrade options.

---

## Adding Additional Accounts

Go to the Accounts tab. Tap the plus button. Fill in the account details for the new account - platform (MT4 or MT5), broker, server, login, currency, and initial balance.

Each account gets its own API key. Each account also requires its own EA installation in the corresponding MetaTrader terminal.

If both accounts are on the same MetaTrader terminal (for example, two MT4 accounts at the same broker on the same PC), you can run two instances of the EA on two different charts, each configured with its respective API key.

---

## Switching Between Accounts

On the Dashboard, a dropdown selector appears at the top when more than one account is connected. Tap it to see the list of connected accounts. Selecting an account updates:

- All dashboard stat tiles
- The equity curve
- The recent trades list
- The account info in Settings

The Trades tab, Calendar, and Reports tab all show data for the currently selected account.

---

## Archiving Accounts

If you close an MT4/MT5 account or finish a prop firm challenge, you can archive the account rather than deleting it. Archived accounts are hidden from the active account list but their data is retained.

This keeps your active account list clean without losing the historical performance data from past accounts.

---

## Account-Level API Keys

Each account has its own unique API key used by the EA for authentication. If you suspect an API key has been compromised, you can rotate it from the account settings. The old key becomes invalid immediately. Update the EA's configuration in MetaTrader with the new key.

## Common Multi-Account Use Cases

**Live + Demo:** Run the same strategy on live and demo simultaneously. Compare the by-symbol and overall stats between accounts to identify whether slippage, spreads, or execution quality differ between environments.

**Prop firm challenge:** Dedicate one account slot to the challenge account. Monitor drawdown separately from your personal account. Archive the account when the challenge ends.

**Multiple brokers:** Compare execution quality by symbol across brokers by reviewing the same symbols' performance in accounts at different brokers.
