# Inside Bar and Pin Bar Pattern Tracking

Inside bars and pin bars are two of the most traded price action patterns. Journaling them systematically tells you which setup actually works for your pairs and timeframes — and which is just visual noise.

## Inside Bar

An inside bar is a candle whose high and low are completely within the previous candle's high-low range. It signals consolidation and potential breakout.

**Trading approaches:**
- Breakout entry: enter when price breaks above (for long) or below (for short) the mother bar
- Fade entry: trade against the breakout if at key level (less common)

**What to log:**
- Timeframe of the pattern
- Direction of breakout
- Whether the inside bar is at a key level (support/resistance, order block)
- Whether a stop hunt of the inside bar range occurred before the real move
- Result

## Pin Bar (Hammer/Shooting Star)

A pin bar has a long wick with a small body, indicating rejection of a price level.

**Bullish pin bar:** Long lower wick, close near the high — shows buyers rejected lower prices.
**Bearish pin bar:** Long upper wick, close near the low — shows sellers rejected higher prices.

**What to log:**
- Timeframe
- Wick-to-body ratio (longer wick = stronger rejection)
- Key level confluence (support, order block, FVG)
- Session
- Result

## Tags for Both Patterns

Inside bar: `ib-long`, `ib-short`, `ib-h4`, `ib-d1`
Pin bar: `pin-bull`, `pin-bear`, `pin-h4`, `pin-d1`
Confluence: `ib-ob` (inside bar at order block), `pin-sr` (pin bar at support/resistance)

## What the Data Usually Shows

After 50+ trades per pattern:
- **Higher timeframe** inside bars and pin bars have better win rates (D1 > H4 > H1)
- **Confluence** dramatically improves results (pin bar at order block vs pin bar in open air)
- **Session** matters — pin bars during London open have different performance than during Asian session

## Summary

Inside bars and pin bars look the same on any chart. What makes one work and another fail is context — the level, session, and confluence. Your journal is the only place those distinctions get measured.
