# How to Journal Wyckoff Accumulation and Distribution

The Wyckoff method is a classic institutional analysis framework that identifies accumulation (buying) and distribution (selling) phases before major price moves. Here is how to journal it effectively.

## Wyckoff Phases to Know

**Accumulation (base for uptrend):**
- Phase A: Selling climax (SC), automatic rally (AR), secondary test (ST)
- Phase B: Building cause (range trading)
- Phase C: Spring (false breakdown — the ideal entry)
- Phase D: Sign of Strength (SOS), Last Point of Support (LPS)
- Phase E: Markup (uptrend begins)

**Distribution (base for downtrend):**
- Phase A: Preliminary supply (PSY), buying climax (BC), automatic reaction (AR)
- Phase B: Building cause in range
- Phase C: UTAD (Upthrust After Distribution — the ideal short entry)
- Phase D: Sign of Weakness (SOW)
- Phase E: Markdown (downtrend begins)

## The Two High-Probability Entry Points

**Spring:** In accumulation Phase C, price briefly breaks below the range low (the "spring"), sweeping stop losses, before snapping back. Entry is on the reversal after the spring.

**UTAD:** In distribution Phase C, price briefly breaks above the range high before reversing sharply. Entry is the reversal.

Both are liquidity sweeps in modern SMC terminology — the concepts align.

## What to Log for Wyckoff Trades

```
Phase identified: Accumulation / Distribution
Current phase: B / C / D
Entry type: Spring / UTAD / LPS / SOW
Range high: [price]
Range low: [price]
Spring/UTAD depth: [pips below/above range]
Volume on spring/UTAD: High / Average / Low
Result: Win / Loss / BE
```

## Measuring Wyckoff Performance

After 30 trades, compare:
- Spring entries vs UTAD entries — which is more reliable in your markets?
- High volume vs low volume spring performance
- Timeframe: do D1 Wyckoff patterns outperform H4 patterns?

## Summary

Wyckoff setups require patience — you often wait weeks for a structure to develop. The journal keeps you honest about whether the wait is worth it based on actual outcomes rather than textbook examples.
