# Recovering Your Account With a RevenueCat ID

Trader Journal does not require an email address or social login. Authentication is handled anonymously via a RevenueCat user ID. This keeps setup simple but means account recovery works differently from a typical app login.

---

## What Is the RevenueCat User ID

RevenueCat is the subscription management platform that Trader Journal uses to handle in-app purchases. When you first open the app, a unique anonymous ID is generated for your installation. This ID is your account identifier.

Your journal data, connected MT4/MT5 accounts, and subscription status are all linked to this ID.

---

## Finding Your ID on the Current Device

In the Trader Journal app:

1. Go to the Settings tab
2. Your RevenueCat user ID is displayed in the account info section

It is a long alphanumeric string. Copy it and store it somewhere safe - your notes app, a password manager, or written down. This is your only way to recover your account.

---

## Recovering on a New Device

If you install Trader Journal on a new phone and want to restore your account:

1. Open the app on the new device
2. Go to Settings
3. Tap Account Recovery or Enter existing ID
4. Paste your RevenueCat user ID
5. Tap Confirm

The app will link the new installation to your existing account. Your connected MT4/MT5 accounts, journal data, notes, tags, screenshots, and subscription status are all restored.

---

## If You Lose Your ID

If you lose your RevenueCat ID and cannot access the original device, account recovery is not possible through the app. Your journal data is stored on the server linked to that ID, but there is no email-based recovery mechanism.

This is the trade-off of anonymous authentication - simple setup, no password to forget, but no external recovery path.

Recommendation: save your ID immediately after installing the app. Treat it like a password.

---

## Subscription Recovery

If you have a paid subscription, RevenueCat can also restore your subscription status through the App Store or Google Play, even without the original user ID, using the Restore Purchases button.

This restores your subscription entitlement but links it to the new device's ID, which is a different account from your original. Your journal data from the original account is not accessible via subscription restore alone - you need the original RevenueCat user ID for full data recovery.

---

## Exporting as a Backup

The best protection against data loss is regular data export. From the Settings tab, use the export option to download your trade data periodically. This gives you an offline backup that does not depend on account recovery.
